Project Description:
According to estimates, the Roma population in Hungary is approximately 876,000 people, representing more than 8% of the country’s total population, making it the largest ethnic minority in Hungary. While Hungary’s social inclusion strategy recognizes that Roma communities are disproportionately affected by deep poverty, it is designed to address the needs of all people living in severe deprivation rather than targeting Roma communities exclusively.
In the city of Debrecen, an estimated 4,000–5,000 disadvantaged Roma residents face significant barriers to accessing public services. In many cases, services are either difficult to access or are not delivered on an equal basis due to prejudice and discrimination within public institutions.
Project objective
The project aims to establish a community support and service center where Roma residents can receive assistance with official administrative procedures and public services. It will also launch a youth club that provides young people with practical information about education, social services, housing, and their civic rights, helping them gain the knowledge and confidence needed to exercise these rights effectively in their everyday lives.
