Project Description:
As part of this project, the association intends to republish the book A Strange Carnival by Ágnes Fedor—a writer, journalist, graphic artist, sculptor, and ceramicist—who was born in Orosháza and is one of the town’s long-forgotten, renowned artists, and who was elected an honorary citizen in 2025 at our recommendation—as the widow of journalist Miklós Wesselényi, Baron. The novel was published in 1947 and is thus considered the first Hungarian Holocaust novel. The author recounts the story of her own life and that of her immediate surroundings, from the German invasion all the way to liberation.
Our association’s most important goals are: to donate one copy each to graduating high school students in the city of Orosháza as a graduation gift with the aim of establishing a tradition; to initiate a timely social dialogue by raising this topic; and to honor the name and works of Ágnes Fedor with a fitting memorial, first at the local level and later on a national scale.
